USA*Engage Expresses Disappointment in Congressional Action to Impose Additional U.S. Russia Sanctions

Friday, 12 December 2014
Washington, DC – USA*Engage Vice President Richard Sawaya issued the following statement on Congressional passage of the Ukraine Freedom Support Act of 2014.

"We regret that Congress has legislated additional U.S. sanctions against Russia, which will impede the Administration's ability to calibrate sanctions as part of the U.S./EU effort to change Russia's conduct in Ukraine. Adding more sanctions perforce will put U.S. businesses with operations and strategic investments in Russia across multiple sectors at further risk, whatever the outcome in Ukraine.

"We do note, however, the constructive changes in the bill as passed that do collectively preserve presidential flexibility in the sanctions area."
