USA*ENGAGE to Endorse Sanctions Reform Bill

Tuesday, 21 October 1997

The press conference will be hosted by Congressman Philip Crane, Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade; Congressman Lee Hamilton; and Senator Richard Lugar to announce the introduction of the Hamilton-Crane-Lugar Sanctions Reform Bill.

Speaking on behalf of USA*ENGAGE will be James Perrella, Chairman, President and CEO of Ingersoll-Rand Company, and Chairman of the National Foreign Trade Council.

In addition, Richard R. Albrecht, Senior Advisor to the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, will testify on behalf of USA*ENGAGE in support of the sanctions reform bill at an 11:00 a.m. hearing in the Ways and Means Committee Room (1100 Longworth) immediately following the press conference.

The Hamilton-Crane-Lugar Bill will establish a common sense procedural framework to consider the imposition of future U.S. unilateral sanctions. The bill would require a more deliberative and disciplined approach to U.S. sanctions policy and would also create a review process for ongoing sanctions.

USA*ENGAGE is a coalition of 652 small and large businesses, agriculture groups and trade associations working to seek alternatives to the proliferation of unilateral U.S. foreign policy sanctions and to promote the benefits of U.S. engagement abroad.
